The list of reasons why you should routinely clean your gutters could be much longer than six, trust me. But I like to get right to the point. Therefore, we are going to cover the most important reasons why you should clean your gutters. So let’s jump right into it;

  • Prevent Water Damage
  • Cracked Foundation
  • Avoid Insect Breeding
  • Extends Life of Gutters
  • Curb Appeal
  • Saves Money

Unfortunately, this is not a one and done type of project. Gutter cleaning and inspection should be a routine part of your home maintenance. As the gutter cleaning professionals of New Jersey, we recommend cleaning your gutters once or twice a year, depending on the location. If your home is surrounded by trees, it may be more often. Let’s not waste anymore time.

Prevent Water Damage

This is hands down, the most important reason to clean your gutters. Honestly, if you stopped reading after this one, I wouldn’t be mad at you. Rainwater is a common cause of damage to many homes within the USA. Think about the concept of gutters, the real purpose of them. To collect water and drain it away from your home. An inch of rainfall can cause almost 1,500 gallons of water to fall on your home. That is a ton of water and it must be drained quickly and properly.

If your gutters are broken or clogged, that 1,500 gallons will not drain properly. This will cause many issues. The water will overflow from the gutters and can even build up between your gutters and your roof. This water needs somewhere to go and often the path of least resistance is inside your home. Clogged gutters can cause interior water damage, promote mold and cause flooding. All of which has the potential to cost an extensive amount of money.

Cracked Foundation

Although a cracked foundation falls under the previous reason (to prevent damage), I felt as if it is important enough to have it’s own. The foundation is easily the most important part of your home. It is the base of the house and it provides the structural support to half up the entire home. Guess what? Clogged gutters are the NUMBER ONE reason for cracked foundations!

When water is not drained properly through your gutters, it will collect and pool along the foundation. Over time this will cause the concrete to weaken, due to constantly being soaked in water. As it starts weakening, cracks will form and the integrity of the concrete will become compromised. Talk about an extensive repair bill.

Gutter Cleaning Will Prevent Insect Breeding

Insects love clogged gutters for many reasons. A clogged gutter does not just mean overflowing water. Water will collect within the gutters and sit stagnant until it evaporates. Remember how I said just one inch of rainfall can be almost 1,500 gallons of water landing on your home, that’s going to take awhile to evaporate!

This stagnant water will become home to many insects including the mosquitos. If you live in Monmouth County, New Jersey, you are fully aware of the torture that is mosquitos. These insects not only bite and steal your blood, they just so happen to love stagnant water in gutters. Even worse, they’re not the only insects that will breed inside your gutters.

Extends the Life of Your Gutters

This is basically the slogan of life right. If you take care of something it will last longer. That rings true for gutters as well. Clogged gutters will add unnecessary weight which can cause the gutter brackets to loosen over time. Furthermore, the gutters can often become bent, rusted and corroded due to failing to maintain them.

Use caution and be sure to take a look around your home during the next rain storm. This occasional act will inform you instantly if there are any issues with your gutters. If you notice any issues, wait for a dry clear day and climb up to take a look. Or give us a call and we will do it for you.

Curb Appeal

You clean the inside of your home right? So you should also clean the outside of your home. I am sure you spend time and money cutting the grass and maybe even trimming some bushes. But have you ever looked up at your gutters? Or better yet, your neighbors. We all know that house on the street that needs some work. I bet one of the eyesores you see is the gutters. If you don’t know what house I’m talking about, I’m sorry because you might be that house.

A clean gutter promotes a clean home and will certainly look better too. Nobody wants to look at the small trees and bushes that are growing in some gutters. Clean them out before it’s too late and you are paying 10x the amount on repairs. National Realtors…

Clean Gutters Saves Money

Which leads me to the final reason you should be inspecting and cleaning your gutters on a regular basis. Yes I know it can be a pain in the you know what. Yes, I know there are a million other things you want to do. However, you must understand the importance of this very small and slightly annoying task.

Failing to maintain your gutters properly will ultimately result in spending unnecessary money to make repairs. Clogged gutters will absolutely result in at least one, if not more of the aforementioned issues. They are a financial time bomb just waiting to explode.
